BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a career day over the weekend, Florida A&M Football student-athlete
Armand Burris has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week for the period of October 12-18, announced Monday evening by the league office from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
Â
Armand Burris, a sophomore wide receiver from Lincolnshire, Illinois, made his presence known in Friday afternoon's win over Alabama State, helping lead the Rattlers in come-from-behind fashion courtesy a final score of 28-27, on an ASU Homecoming in Montgomery, Alabama.
Â
Burris, a 6-foot-1, 194-pound product of Stevenson High School, recorded career-high numbers with four receptions for 216 yards and two touchdowns.
Â
With the Orange and Green trailing 27-14 in the fourth quarter, Burris hauled in an 88-yard pass from freshman quarterback
Armond Parker and let his speed do the rest for a touchdown. The following drive, Burris was found wide open for an 89-yard reception, scoring the touchdown, with the visitors converting on a two-point conversion to conclude the scoring drive.
Â
Burris helped the Rattlers add their first SWAC win of the season and the Quinn Gray Era, and as a result help him earn his first weekly award of the season.
Â
Additionally, Southern's Herman Brister III was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week. Rounding out the awards, Grambling State's Jacobe Robinson earned Newcomer of the Week and Alcorn State's Omarion Blakes swiped Special Teams Player of the Week.
